Tom Swift And His Big Tunnel
Or, The Hidden City Of The Andes

By Victor Appleton

About This Book

The classic books of Tom Swift adventures are well written and amazingly easy to read. What is more, they seem much more contemporary than they should be, considering they were written more than a half-century ago. Perhaps this is because the generations of young adults who read these adventures were inspired to achieve the dreams these great novels presented!

A perennial favorite with boys and men for generations, Tom Swift, boy-inventor, good sport, and all-around nice guy has delighted red-blooded youngsters for several generations. You'll love his good humor, courage, and — of course! — all those great inventions of his. A guilty pleasure? No, just good fun; take a whirl with Tom today!

About Victor Appleton

By 1910, "Victor Appleton" had already published "Tom Swift and his Motor-Cycle, Or, Fun and Adventures on the Road," "Tom Swift and his Motor-Boat," "Tom Swift and his Airship," "Tom Swift and his Submarine Boat," and "Tom Swift and his Electric Runabout, Or, the Speediest Car on the Road." And, according to the copyright page of one book, he had "other volumes in preparation." Not bad, for a man who never existed!

Yes, Victor Appleton was a house name for the company that created the series. In the early 1900s, a whole flock of writers busily churned out the dashing yarns about the adventures of young Tom, the inventor, his wealthy and indulgent father, and their wondrous devices that were, in their day, virtually science fiction marvels. And the same was true of "Victor Appleton, Junior," the author who produced the "Tom Swift, Junior" stories in the early '70s.

"What a good job," said young Tom, happily!
