In this high fantasy, Ware, a soft-spoken country fellow is pursued by the wrath of the magician-king who has usurped the throne of Avianne. Ware struggles to aid the true king and save the princess he loves — lest she turn into a falcon and fly away. But when the mysterious Serpent's Daughter offers them her help, Ware hesitates. What are her true motives, and — is she friend, or foe?

This is the first in a series of three books that tell the history of the last kings of Avianne. The second book, "The Phoenix," is due for publication in March. The third book, "The Crown," is in pre-press production and will be available in late spring.
