Our Self-Serving Editorials
Is It Too Much To Ask?
The the doom-sayers who predict the death of e-books are all wrong. E-books are here to stay, just as the printing press is here to stay. There is so much to know. This is such a rich and varied world. There's simply so much great stuff out there, that having easy-to-store, low-cost and free literature online seems like an obvious natural development. The world's literature, archived in your own computer come on, is that too much to ask?
Come on you're ready for it. When you're reading a "paper" book haven't you ever wished you had a Search Button handy? Why should you have to wait for snailmail to deliver the book you want? Why traipse to the bookstore in the mall? What do you do at night when the TV is all bad and you want something to read and the stores are closed? You turn on to e-books. Of course you do!
Hey Mac, Come Back! We Love you, too!
Scrambling to let MAC users in on our Free Classics offer, we've learned of not one, but two freeware utilities out there that will download our PC self-extracting WINzip .exe files onto your computer. The one recommended to us by the Apple rep with whom we spoke is called Stuffit available at http://www.stuffit.com and the other is ZipIt, available at http://www.maczipit.com. Good luck,
Mac, and glad to have you with us!
And for regular PC users, a general-purpose reminder:
Download your ZIP file (.exe file) to a temporary location (remembering where you put the file). That may take a several minutes; please be patient. Go offline, locate the compressed file, and double-click on it to unzip it. It will open up like an air mattress and install itself on your desktop in a folder called "Freelook Bookstore." When you enter the directory, you will see a file called "Open your book here." Double-click on that file, and there you are!
E-Books: Who Needs Them!
The way we love puppies that's the way a lot of us
love books! We like to pet their covers and touch the pages,
and see them lined up on the shelves. But ultimately the part of the book that real readers really love is its heart: the stories and the knowledge the books have to offer. That's why we believe in e-books at the FreeLook Bookstore, because e-books allow us to specialize in the part of the the book that matters. Other bookstores sell bindings and paper. We offer you the essence of the book itself the words. That's why our prices are so low. Haven't you read our slogan? No books over five bucks!
Let me tell you about our "Free Look." Exactly as
prospective buyers can take a book from the shelf and read the
first few pages, e-book buyers can read a chapter or two from
each of our site's recently published titles.
But that's not all we offer. Right now, our huge library of Classics Club books e-books ranging
from Plato and Henry James to Zane Gray plus many, many childrens's books, and a multitude of "fun" books like "Tarzan" and "Tom Swift" are all yours. You can can download and own all the e-books in this section absolutely free! That's right, there are no strings attached. You can own as many of our FreeLook Classic books as you want at no charge. And of course, here at the free E-Zine there's more free stuff, too. There's a free recipe every month, lots of entertaining articles, and free short stories too!
Why? Why are we giving books away? Partly, of course, because we want you to buy our for-sale books, too. But equally important, we want everyone to be able to read the great books and to meet the great minds of the world. We want you to have that grand feeling of having all the really wonderful books you can read! But don't take my word for it, take a free look! I mean a Free BOOK!
